Oxaliplatin is Indications for:
- Advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer (in combination regimens)
- Adjuvant treatment of stage III colon cancer after complete surgical removal of the tumor
- May be used in other cancers as directed by an oncologist
Administration of Oxaliplatin 100mg/50ml:
- Given as an intravenous (IV) infusion in a hospital or oncology clinic
- Dosage is calculated based on body surface area (mg/m²) and treatment protocol
- Usually combined with fluorouracil (5-FU) and leucovorin for improved effectiveness
- Infusion time is generally 2–6 hours
- Pre- and post-medications may be given to manage nausea or prevent side effects
Safety Information:
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to platinum compounds
- Common side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, mouth sores, fatigue, anemia, and low blood counts
- May cause neuropathy (tingling, numbness, or cold sensitivity in hands and feet) – sometimes long-lasting
- Serious risks: severe allergic reactions, lung toxicity, liver dysfunction, and kidney impairment
- Requires regular monitoring of blood counts, kidney and liver function during treatment
- Effective contraception must be used during and after treatment, as oxaliplatin can harm an unborn child
