How to Take
- 1 tablet once daily in the morning
- With or without food
Common effects: Increased urination, UTIs, genital infections, or thirst, nasopharyngitis, cough, pancreatitis, mouth ulcers
Important Warnings & Precautions
Empiget-LT may not be suitable for everyone. Use with caution in patients with risk factors for:
- Acute pancreatitis (linked to DPP-4 inhibitors)
- Volume depletion / dehydration
- Heart failure
- Genital infections and UTIs (common with SGLT2 inhibitors)
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) – may occur even with normal blood sugar
- Fournier’s gangrene (rare but serious infection)
- Hypoglycemia when combined with insulin or sulphonylureas
- Severe joint pain (rare DPP-4 inhibitor side effect)
- Blistering skin conditions such as bullous pemphigoid
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
- Elderly (75+); use with caution; risk of dehydration is higher
Caution
- Avoid during pregnancy unless clearly necessary
- Not recommended while breastfeeding
