Janumet combines the complementary actions of sitagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, and metformin, a biguanide.
Sitagliptin increases glucose-dependent insulin secretion and decreases glucagon production, while metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity.
Together they provide effective glycaemic control when diet, exercise, or single-agent therapy is insufficient.
