Indications for Leucovorin:
- Rescue therapy after high-dose methotrexate treatment (to protect normal tissues)
- In combination with fluorouracil (5-FU) for the treatment of colorectal cancer and other solid tumors
- To reduce toxicity from folic acid antagonists such as methotrexate or trimethoprim
- Megaloblastic anemia due to folic acid deficiency (when oral therapy is not possible)
Administration of Leucovorin:
- Administered by intravenous injection or infusion under strict medical supervision
- Dosage depends on the indication, methotrexate levels (in rescue therapy), and patient condition
- Treatment schedules are determined by an oncologist or prescribing specialist
Safety Information:
- Should only be used under the supervision of healthcare professionals experienced in cancer therapy
- Common side effects (usually mild): nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, mouth sores, fatigue
- When combined with fluorouracil, it may increase the risk of diarrhea, low blood counts, and mucositis
- Not recommended for patients with pernicious anemia or other vitamin B12–related anemias
