Indications / Uses
Zinnat 500mg Tablets are used in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:
- Acute streptococcal tonsillitis and pharyngitis
- Acute bacterial sinusitis
- Acute otitis media
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Cystitis (urinary tract infection)
- Pyelonephritis (kidney infection)
- Uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections
- Early Lyme disease
Dosage & Administration
Adults and children ≥40kg:
- Mild to moderate infections: 250mg twice daily
- Severe infections (including otitis media, bronchitis exacerbation, Lyme disease): 500mg twice daily
Lyme disease duration: 10–21 days (typically 14 days)
Important infromation
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
- Take after food for better absorption
- Swallow whole; do not chew or crush tablets
- Complete the full course even if symptoms improve
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Headache or dizziness
- Candida (yeast) overgrowth
- Mild liver enzyme changes
Rare but serious side effects may include severe allergic reactions, skin reactions, or antibiotic-associated colitis.
Precautions
- Not suitable for patients allergic to cephalosporins or penicillins
- Use with caution in kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be required)
- May cause antibiotic-associated diarrhea (C. difficile infection)
- Use carefully in patients with a history of penicillin allergy
Drug Interactions
- May reduce effectiveness of oral contraceptives (use backup contraception)
- May increase bleeding risk when used with warfarin (monitor closely)
- Antacids and H2 blockers may reduce absorption
