Indications:
- Ovarian cancer (both initial treatment and relapsed disease).
- Lung cancer (non-small cell and small cell).
- Head and neck cancers.
- Sometimes used in bladder, breast, and other solid tumors as part of combination chemotherapy.
Administration:
- Supplied as a ready-to-use solution for intravenous infusion.
- Given by slow IV infusion under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
- Dose is usually calculated based on the patient’s kidney function (glomerular filtration rate) and body surface area.
- Treatment is administered in cycles, often every 3 to 4 weeks, depending on the cancer type and protocol.
Safety Information:
- Contraindicated in patients with severe bone marrow suppression or allergy to carboplatin or other platinum-containing drugs.
- Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, hearing difficulties, prior chemotherapy, or low blood counts.
- Common side effects: nausea, vomiting, fatigue, low blood counts (anemia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia), and temporary taste changes.
- Possible serious effects: infections due to low immunity, bleeding problems, kidney toxicity, hearing loss (ototoxicity), and allergic reactions.
- Requires regular blood tests and sometimes kidney function and hearing tests during treatment.
