Indications:
- Testicular cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Bladder cancer
- Head and neck cancers
- Lung cancer (non-small cell and small cell types)
- May be used in combination with other chemotherapy medicines for enhanced effectiveness.
Administration:
- Administered only by healthcare professionals via slow intravenous infusion.
- Dose is calculated based on body surface area, type of cancer, and treatment protocol.
- Patients are given pre- and post-hydration with fluids to protect the kidneys.
- Treatment is given in cycles, often every 3–4 weeks.
Safety Information:
- Contraindicated in patients with severe kidney impairment, hearing loss, bone marrow suppression, or allergy to platinum-containing medicines.
- Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, hearing difficulties, nerve disorders, or prior chemotherapy exposure.
- Common side effects: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, low blood counts, and hair loss.
- Serious risks: kidney toxicity, hearing loss (ototoxicity), nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy), allergic reactions, and risk of infections due to low immunity.
- Requires regular monitoring of kidney function, blood counts, hearing tests, and electrolyte levels during treatment.
