Indications:
- Lymphomas (Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s).
- Leukemias (acute and chronic blood cancers).
- Multiple myeloma.
- Solid tumors such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and lung cancer.
- Sometimes used in bone marrow transplantation and autoimmune diseases (when prescribed by a specialist).
Administration:
- Supplied as a powder for injection or infusion. Must be dissolved in a suitable sterile solution before use.
- Administered by intravenous infusion or injection in a hospital or oncology clinic.
- Dosage depends on cancer type, treatment protocol, and patient factors (weight, kidney and liver function, blood counts).
- Patients are usually given adequate fluids and sometimes mesna to protect the bladder from irritation.
Safety Information:
- Contraindicated in patients allergic to cyclophosphamide or with severely suppressed bone marrow.
- Caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment, prior bladder problems, or low immunity.
- Common side effects: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, hair loss, fatigue, and increased risk of infection.
