It helps the kidneys remove excess salt and water through urine, making it useful in the management of oedema (fluid retention) associated with conditions such as congestive heart failure and renal disease. It may also be prescribed for hypertension, either alone or together with other blood-pressure medicines.
Active Ingredient
- Metolazone 2.5mg per tablet
How to Take
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Because Metoz increases urine production, it is often taken earlier in the day to reduce nighttime urination.
The dose and duration depend on the condition being treated and your response to therapy.
Possible Side Effects
Common or possible side effects include:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Nausea
- Weakness
- Increased urination
- Blurred vision
Metolazone can also cause significant electrolyte disturbances, including low potassium or sodium, and dehydration. Symptoms such as severe weakness, muscle cramps, confusion, fainting, or an irregular heartbeat require medical attention.
Precautions
- Prescription-only medicine; use only under medical supervision.
- Regular monitoring of electrolytes and kidney function may be required.
- Use caution if you have kidney or liver disease.
- Tell your doctor about other medicines, particularly other diuretics and medicines that may affect blood pressure or electrolyte levels.
- Do not use if you are unable to pass urine (anuria) or have a known allergy to metolazone.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding should be discussed with a healthcare professional before use.
- Avoid stopping or changing the prescribed dose without medical advice.
